(OOC: Hope this is the right board for this post. Was kind of hard to choose.)

Anatoly watched the stone wall rising up before him, standing so still that he could have been taken for a statue, if not for the plain, white shirt that rustled as he inhaled. His mind was searching the hallways of the school, a task that took all his concentration. The Summer night was humid and hot, and sweat was gathering on his furrowed brow. Battles were raging inside, he knew. Evil sought to take it from those who sought to learn. Young minds were being terrorized by the creatures of the night while fighting for their lives. The Russian was also aware that other vampires had joined the battle, but he himself would not. Not even when he learned that the lupines were on the side of the demons, the opposite side of his beloved Eva. It was her he was searching for,

It hurt terribly to know the danger she was in, but this time he had not tried to persuade her from joining the fray, just like he had not asked Marion to stop the attack. These women could not be reasoned with. A sting of guilt made him wince; he felt like a coward for abandoning the mortals to such a grim fate, but he reminded himself firmly of all the innocent souls that died all over the world every day; the pupils of Emerald Magic were only a few more names on the endless list. Not to mention that some of them had chosen to fight for the demons. And who was he to judge, he who feasted on blood every night? Better to stay neutral, but he wished that he knew what Marion was trying to acomplish. Didn’t she have enough power as the Mother of Demons?

A couple of raindrops fell on his face and the Russian looked up to see dark clouds gathering. Thunder rolled over the mountains. It would be quite a storm. He turned away from the castle and looked towards the caves. His purpose here was complete; he had found her, safe for now. He’d keep watching her from a distance just in case, even though he felt like a fool for always coming back to save her from herself, like some obediant dog. That’s love for you.

He allowed himself a smile in the rain; he could go home to spend a while watching the photographs Eva had taken for him. It was such a sweet gesture, it had made his heart swell with joy when he relieved the bird of it’s precious package. Anatoly had seen the sun in cinemas and on TV, but it was great to be able to pull the pictures out of a pocket anytime and relive the light of his childhood through her gift.

When the fight was over and things were calm again, he would have to find a way to say a proper thank you. Until then, he’d keep a close watch over his beloved, just in case she needed him.
